Tik Tok pays $5.7 million fine to U.S. for illegally gathering children’s data

The Chinese-owned video sharing network, Tik Tok, agreed to pay a $5.7 million fine to the U.S. to settle charges that it illegally collected personal information from children. The social network has surged in popularity since it renamed the brand from Musical.ly. The app failed to seek parental consent before collecting names, email addresses and other personal information from users under the age of 13. This penalty was the largest ever in a children’s privacy investigation.


YouTube is disabling all comments on videos with minors

To prevent predatory behavior, YouTube is disabling user comments on videos featuring children. The Google-owned company decided to take action after an investigation revealed how comments and connections on child porn were being displayed alongside innocent videos.
