Day 5: The Amazon, Baby Goats, Street Art and Lots of Cheese

It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the 5th day of SXSW. After attending dozens of panels, bustling through crowds of hundreds of people, and stuffing our faces with too much food, it’s nice to take a seat and write.

The first panel I attended today was about documenting the vast and mysterious landscape of the Amazon. This mystical jungle is somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit, but it wasn’t until today’s panel that I realized how little I actually knew about the people and culture that exists there. Documentarian Rafa Calil spoke about his experiences living among the locals and adventuring into the depths of the jungle. Beyond the stories of jaguars and monkeys, he was captivated by the wilderness of humanity.

Afterward, I made my way down to the SXSW trade show and I was immediately overwhelmed by the abundance of booths and technology. One company called goHappy invited attendees to spin their wheel of prizes. To my excitement, I won a ticket to go play with baby goats and attempt some goat yoga. Needless to say, I rushed over to surround myself with these adorable little animals.

Following my escapades with the baby goats, I attended the Creating Fearless Designs Through Street Art panel. Artists and brand ambassadors discussed the various ways they maintain their artistic authenticity while also making a living. It was extremely eye-opening to see the opportunities and challenges these local artists are met with daily.

After leaving the panel, I was drawn to another conference room by the overwhelming aroma of cheese. Imagine my surprise when we stumbled upon a room full of hundreds of types of cheese and wine. The next hour consisted of nonstop consumption until I was too full to move.

Lastly, we made our way over to the Southbites food trucks and finished out a truly amazing SXSW experience—though, I’m sure I’ll be back for more. I’m not done with you yet, South by!
