Preview: Tower Recall: How UT Shooting Changed the Media

The first mass shooting to take place on a college campus happened right here in Austin, Texas in 1966. From this unforgettable tragedy emerged the creation of SWAT teams, and also changed the way journalism covered events such as this. I was fortunate enough to speak with Chris Elley, Principal of Electro-Fish, about the upcoming panel he will be apart of at SXSW entitled Tower Recall: How UT Shooting Changed the Media. Elley is married to journalist Cile Spelce, who will be joining Elley on the panel along with her father Neal Spelce (pictured above). Neal Spelce was at the scene of the tower shooting and was reporting during the first national broadcast of the event. See the entire interview with Elley below, and don’t miss the panel that will highlight how every journalists method has been and is continuing to be used to cover the view changing incident.
