Today was a lot crazier than yesterday! Events started earlier, I had three back-to-back, and it was so much warmer outside. I experienced VR for the first time and saw two legendary astronauts up close and personal. OH ALSO I SAW BILL NYE THE SCIENCE AND NOW PLANETARY SOCIETY GUY.

What feels like a lifetime ago, I had a great Skype conversation with Erin Roberts ahead of her How Books Are Fighting Back In The Digital Age panel. She is just as lovely and lively in person and I was able to snag a short clip with her after the panel concluded.

Day 1 Recap

So concludes day one of my first real SXSW experience. I’ve been several times in the past since 2007, but they were mostly for music and I never had a badge. In the 12 years since, the festival itself has shifted much more towards being a tech conference than a music festival.

Our panel is hopefully like trying to start a conversation about what it would look like to create a community in which the barrier to entry, to the creative use of this technology, isn’t so exclusive just to people who have really large audiences or access to a lot of money and I think that’s just a matter of time but also a matter of conversation and talking about what ways can labels and other media outlets partner with artists to to create new art, new work, new material, new things for people, new experiences for people. – Rob Lowe
