Lander Coronado-Garcia is a product strategy lead at Thinktiv, an innovation and design consultancy located in downtown Austin, Texas. He has been involved in product strategy and design since 2005 and received an MBA from the Wharton School in 2011. His experience at Accenture and as CEO of a B2C social app company has allowed him to put his skills into practice at Thinktiv. Specifically, he applies user-centered design principles to healthcare companies and develops product strategies that assist with the complex challenges that are involved in this industry.
According to Coronado-Garcia, “Thinktiv is an innovation consulting company based out of Austin. We’re about 30 people, and we work with a lot of different types of companies in different industries to help them think through how to solve innovation problems. Whether that’s building new products or trying to go into new markets, we help them think through those products and come up with solutions to execute those strategies. We work with anywhere from 30 to 40 clients a year, and a good chunk of our clients are in healthcare or healthcare related industries. We’ve seen a lot of the current problems and what people are trying to figure out in healthcare with all the changes that are happening in that industry right now.”
Since 2006, Thinktiv has been building winning companies through their ability to deliver “what matters most to the market – when it matters most.” Moreover, they use innovation as the “value generation engine” for rising companies, and their systematic programs generate immediate revenue gains and company valuation.
We work with a number clients in the healthcare space, and we like to explore different ways of solving problems and bringing perspectives to industries. We think a lot of times the best solutions for problems come from hearing a lot of different perspectives from people in the industries and disciplines that aren’t necessarily directly related.
Coronado-Garcia, along with Jonathan Lewis from Thinktiv, will be hosting the Better Healthcare Through Patient-Centered Design Meet Up. This event will provide a space for entrepreneurs, health tech professionals, developers, and designers to connect and discuss ideas regarding patient-centered design, as well as how it can aid with healthcare costs.
“We are usually involved in some way with SXSW. It’s obviously a great place to bring people from a lot of different perspectives and industries together. Specifically, I want to do something in healthcare because we do come across quite a few healthcare clients. I thought it would be a great way to get a type of person in the room who is interested in solving healthcare problems, but also potentially coming at it from a different perspective than the usual aspects of healthcare.”
Coronado-Garcia, in addition to several industry experts, will facilitate a discussion about the significance of patient-centered care and experiences in today’s health industry, including health trackers, doctor review sites, insurance aggregators, and population management tools.
“There will be leaders from a bunch of different disciplines in the room, anywhere from healthcare practices and hospitals to technology companies, offering various perspectives on how to better serve patients and create better outcomes by focusing on the patient’s perspective. The fact that it’s not just a panel, but it’s meant to be more involved, people can participate, ask questions, lend their ideas, and have a discussion. The goal is to have a free flow of ideas and not just one direction.”
Coronado-Garcia wants audience members to take away a connection with someone they think is compelling and who can help them pursue that goal of better outcomes in healthcare. He also hopes attendees will leave with a new idea or perspective they have never heard before, as well as listen to experts who have overcome roadblocks to their problems.
