During my time at SXSW, I spent a lot of time at the SXSW Trade Show to discover what was new in technology and to try out the devices the exhibit had to offer. After visiting a few booths, I was able to sit through the “Pitch” panels there at the Trade Show and ended up discovering a new, and fairly simple device for a good cause.
Athena, a smart safety jewelry device, created by Roar For Good was designed to help reduce assaults on women by a simple touch of a button. Yasmine, Co-Founder and CEO of Roar for Good, came up with the idea for Athena after traveling across six countries and encountered assaults on women had been happening frequently across every country she visited. It wasn’t until she arrived back home and found that her neighbor had been brutally raped and decided to create a device that would made a change.
Athena is designed for every women who wants to live fearlessly and boldly, but is also encouraged and can be used by men, seniors and children as well. The team at Roar for Good “target their message to women because of the tragic statistics” of assault on women, but ultimately could be used by anyone.
