When walking around the Trade Show at SXSW, you can see and experience technologies that innovative people have created and are sharing to the world. One booth that I stopped by was the iANIMAL VR experience created by animalEQUALITY. This VR experience is a four-minute video that embodies the user as an animal at the slaughter house. The user sees through the eyes of an animal and goes with them through everything they experience living and dying. They had two videos available, one for pigs and one for chickens, though they hope to have videos for all farm animals to show how these animals are living, treated, and killed.
animalEQUALITY is an organization that informs people of farm animal suffering in the hopes to change the way these animals are treated. I talked with Dane Charbeneau, Campaigns Manager for animalEQYALITY, about the purpose of iANIMAL and what they hope to achieve with this VR experience.
I also had the opportunity to speak with William Rivas-Rivas, Director of Philanthropy for animalEQUALITY, about the iANIMAL virtual experience. Rivas-Rivas pitched their product and purpose at the Social and Environmental Impact pitch session.
