You may wonder what Cecile Richards and David Karp, the founder and CEO of Tumblr have in common and why are they speaking at SXSW together?

At their SXSW panel, Activism, Allyship and Where We Go from Here, Richards and Karp unveiled their newest tech initiative to help raise support in the tech community for Planned Parenthood: #TechStandsWithPP. They also announced that they Tumblr sponsored showcase they have planned for Sunday night, the 12th, had instead turned into a Planned Parenthood rally.

Right now with the current political climate, Planned Parenthood is under increased scrutiny about their practices. In the video below, you can hear a clip of Richards explaining about some of the things Planned Parenthood can do.

Tumblr and Planned Parenthood are a forced to be reckoned with, as Planned Parenthood ran many successful Tumblrs and that is how Karp connected with Richards and Planned Parenthood.

You could say that Planned Parenthood is on the cutting edge of technology as one million people booked their appointments through their mobile phones last year. People “use technology for good to make sure people can get the care and information they need,” Richards said.

If you are wondering how to reach out and help Planned Parenthood the number one thing you can do is stand behind planned Parenthood and use the hashtag: #techstandswithpp.

“If we don’t stand up for our values no, when will we ever do it?,” Cecile said.

Besides tweeting with their hashtag, Karp and Richards also advocate for you to communicate with members of Congress, call the white house and flood them with your personal stories of using Planned Parenthood and let them know how much you cherish this organization.
