After the horrific events of Thursday night, many in the SXSW community were understandably shaken up. A lot of people wondered exactly how they could help.
The Blood Center of Central Texas put out a call for blood donations, and the next day their lobby was full of Austinites doing their part. It wasn’t just blood donations, however. SXSW Cares, a local charity was able to raise $20,000 in 24 hours.
One of the partners with SXSW Cares was Dropshades, sunglasses that respond to sound and light up accordingly. They hosted a party where they donated half of all of their sales to the SXSW Cares charity.
Harrison Herndon, a senior at TCU, created the sunglasses and after a very successful Kickstarter campaign has begun to sell them to the public.
