So I’m walking through exhibit halls 3 and 4, looking for Market Smiths because I was supposed to do a copywriting workshop (which I didn’t get to do), and I see Shaquille O’Neal.
A small crowd is around him, taking out their cameras, and I freak.
I have Google Glass on, mind you. So I start tapping the side, saying “OK, Glass.” I swipe the wrong way. I swipe the wrong way again. Ahhhhh!
Finally, I’m on the main screen. Tap once. Swipe. “Record a video.” Tap.
I start recording. My heart starts pounding.
I think to myself, I have Google Glass. I’m recording Shaq. I have to do something!
So as you can see, I say hi. I know, I know, but that’s all I could think of.
If you notice, he looks very serious and I almost thought he was going to diss me.
But he didn’t. He kindly looked down, gave a smile and said hi.
My heart was pounding and my hands were shaking.
I’m not even a Lakers fan. No offense, Shaq. Wait, he’s not even a Laker anymore. Fail. Google….. He’s retired. Shows how much I know about basketball.
It was just the experience though. I’ve never seen a celebrity, so for me, it was exciting and fun!
Now that I’m calm, the video is up, and I’ve proven my awesomeness for the day, I will reflect:
- The SXTXState Project really gives students the opportunity to have a new, great experience. Not only did I meet Shaq, I’ve been learning some great things about technology, journalism and the online world.
- With that said, Shaq is just a person. It was very cool to see him. I was star struck for a bit. But ultimately, we’re all people with two eyes and two ears, all with a brain to think and heart to love. We all have the opportunity to be great.
We may not all get the spotlight or get a chance to be famous, but we all have the opportunity to be great. We have the opportunity to do something.
I hope you enjoyed seeing Shaq #throughglass, and I hope you are inspired to be great.
I’d like to give glory to God in my life for the opportunities He has given me. Every door that has been opened in my education, in work, and even for this project, I believe, is God’s goodness in my life.
Ok, I’m done. Be great!
