SXSW Startup Village, part of the Interactive conference, brings together entrepreneurs, startups and investors in the Hilton Austin Downtown. This space houses the SXSW Interactive Accelerator, startup-themed panels and meetups, lounges, pitch events and mentoring/coaching sessions.

I had the privilege of chatting with Dr. Bob Metcalfe, professor of innovation at the University of Texas, about the startup accelerator at SXSW. He was selected as an emcee for this year’s interactive accelerator event and served as a judge last year.

In our interview, Metcalfe, who is an inventor, has started his own company and worked in venture capital, discusses his role as an emcee, advice for startups who will be pitching their ideas and his thoughts on what qualities are most important in a successful startup.

The fifth annual SXSW Interactive Accelerator will take place March 11 – 12 and is open to Interactive, Gold and Platinum badge holders. It is held on the 4th floor of the Hilton Austin Downtown.
