If you’ve ever doubted the power of social media, then you’ve never spent a night on 6th Street during SXSW. The actual street can go from completely empty to a crazy packed dance party within seconds, all thanks to Twitter and Facebook. Decentralized Dance Party is a rogue organization that lives by its partying manifesto: “Partying is forgetting who you are while remembering what you are.” If you were on 6th and Red River at around 11pm on Saturday then you saw the power of 300 boom boxes, social media, and a group of people just out to have a good time.
(Warning: Some expletives are used, but used in good fun by the creators of a spontaneous dance party!)
