Do you watch your favorite shows on Hulu? It’s a growing problem for show producers and networks alike. Advertising on Hulu has created some problems – mainly there isn’t enough of it – and networks own the site. So that’s exactly why Viacom pulled The Daily Show and Colbert Report off of Hulu. Why give it to another company (Hulu) to make money off of?
Seth Shapiro held a panel called “Hulu and Hollywood” Tuesday at SXSWi. I talked to him about the future of Hulu and what networks need to do to engage their viewers.

I personally watch almost all of my shows on hulu, well because its cheaper than a dvr! ha Now im not a big daily show fan but love the Colbert Report and when it was pulled I had no idea that it was because it was owend by viacom and that they were not getting paid, I dont understand why hulu doesnt just set a price to give them for the ability to show it on the site.
Another thing is I also noticed the random ads that show up, maybe they should link it to your facebook account or something along that line that gives you related ads for things you like?

That is exactly what Mr. Shapiro was asked today and we touched briefly on it in the interview.. It seems like Hulu should do a better job with targeted ads by using the same personal information that Google and Facebook use. Just makes sense, no?

I’m not very familiar with Hulu. I’ve used it about once or twice to watch some Saturday Night Live. How does Viacom not get any revenue from Hulu? Is it because it doesn’t have its own network like ABC, Fox, NBC? I should get on Hulu more often.

Yes, Hulu is owned by ABC, Fox and NBC. Viacom believed it didn’t make sense to offer them free programming for Hulu without getting any of the money from it. So they pulled their programming and are trying to come up with a model to do it on their own.
