The Tacos of Texas Recap

The #TacosOfTexas panel by Mando Rayo was the epitome of what a SXSW panel is all about: expressing your passion for something by creating a lifelong memorable experience. With a burning passion for his culture and love for authentic food, Rayo’s admiration for tacos took him through a journey across Texas, “Taco Journalism is an in-depth look at the taco culture in the Lone Star State.” I interviewed Mando Rayo back in January for my article “Preview: Tacos of Texas: Mando Rayo”, and his ambition to tell stories through cultural food was all the more reason to see his panel at SXSW Interactive.

Here’s a sneak peek into Rayo’s panel on Friday, March 10, 2017:

Rayo took his audience on a journey by beginning his panel with a short documentary of his adventures on the taco tour. He then went on to show the diversity of tacos he had on his trip. He shared his knowledge with the audience, telling us the differentiation of each taco, from crispy to soft, from breakfast to lunch, from hot to mild, from puffy to thin, all depending on what part of Texas the tacos came from.

I was lucky enough to quickly talk to Mando Rayo after his panel and get a clip of him telling me what he hopes his audience will do after leaving the panel and where we could find his amazing “TACO” cap.
