TBT: Jordan Lloyd

Throwback Thursday – To commemorate the 10th year of SXTXState, each Thursday we’ll be featuring past participants in the project. Check back each Thursday until SXSW to find out what SXTXState alumni remember from their time with the project and what they are up to now.

Like all former SXTXState members, Jordan Lloyd got her start in the project when she was a graduate student at the Texas State University School of Journalism & Mass Communication.

Lloyd was part of the project in 2011. Now, for around 5 years, she’s worked as a senior team member and profile manager for Main Street Hub, a marketing service for local businesses.

“I am managing a couple different teams that specialize in content,” Lloyd said. “When we get a new customer, my teams are basically responsible for making them look awesome online.”

Essentially, the teams she manages are effectively the online voice or face for their clients, controlling the content for all of their pages. In Austin in particular, Main Street Hub works with a lot of small venues downtown, such as bars and restaurants.

Lloyd said she learned several memorable lessons from her participation.

“I think I did it in 2011,” Lloyd said. “From the actual SXTXState experience, being pushed to interview people, having a goal, trying to come back with people interviewed, it was an awesome challenge and learning opportunity that sticks out in my mind.”

When Lloyd was part of SXTXState, it was structured differently. SXTXState was once only a graduate project, now it has blossomed into an entire graduate course.

Lloyd also praised Cindy Royal‘s mentorship and leadership of the digital media program.

“She’s definitely tough,” Lloyd said. “I think her classes were huge for professional development. For me, I think the problem solving mindset is something I’ve really carried with me. I definitely attribute Cindy, for sure.”
