Why We Need Anonymous Social Networks

Josh COnstine of Techcrunch sat down with David Byttow on why we need more anonymous social networks and to talk about his new app secret which has only been live for thirty five days. Secret allows you to share secrets within your network of of facebook friends and twitter followers but doesn’t allow you to see who the message was sent from. People in your network can heart the secret of comment on it.

Byttow says anonymous networks allow you to Get feed back based on how you feel. With normal social networks their is a wall that prevents you saying what you really want to and instead edit yourself.

He talk’s about a Dominatrix of CEO’s in silicon valley that shares secrets on the network and how that allows a viewpoint that couldn’t normally be shared.

He acknowledges the challenges of anonymity online and speaks how the community is respectful for the most part but at times the two moderators that he has working for secret do occasionally have to step in and take down content.

Certain areas online allow people to freely fail 4chan is one of the original areas where people have generated memes that have become widespread and ubiquitous because of an anonymous culture. While these areas of social annoyminity exist Byttow was looking for a beautiful way to be anonymous online.
