Preview: Bring Copy to This Hands-On Workshop

I have to admit, Jean Tang is my new role model. I may have a bias though since she essentially does what I do, except she owns her own business.

Tang is the founder of Market Smiths, a creative copywriting agency based in Brooklyn, and she is definitely a reflection of her company.

The tagline, “Copywriting for Humans,” describes even her persona. Although a respected guru of words, Tang happily greeted me, showed genuine interest in my education and career, and even showed me her fluffy, white cat before our interview. She was just really cool.

I can see why she’s so good at writing copy for humans. In such a short time speaking with her, I can tell that she genuinely finds interest in people. This obviously helps her in the interviewing part of the copywriting process and in finding the nuggets of information worth story telling.

What makes copy really pop is the deliciousness of human narration and discovery. We can’t think of a better way to reach that than through a juicy, organic conversation. 99% of the time, we interview you. It’s often astonishingly fun—and you might learn a thing (or five) about your company’s market positioning. Market Smiths website

I look forward to getting some of my own blogs reviewed at this workshop. If you have any type of copy, from creative fiction work to blogs and website content, Tang encourages SXSWi attendees to take it by the workshop, where the team at Market Smiths will can review it and make valuable suggestions.

Basically, Market Smiths will be meeting one-on-one with attendees during the hour and a half workshop, so you may only be there for 15 minutes, depending on the wait, so be sure to arrive early, bring copy and possibly schedule another session or make dinner plans soon after.
